It's A Guy Thing

Okay, so normally I'd keep things lite and fluffy, none of that heavy deep thinking stuff, but occasionally it has to come out...

Let me start by saying this... All I really know about women I know because of TV, movies, magazines and books.

And what I know is (in vast generalizations)
  • Nice guys only get the girl in the movies
  • Nice guys are almost always put into the friendzone with the women they want
  • Nice girls usually end up with the shittiest of guys
  • Nice girls don't tend to see the people who are best for them are right under their noses

Yeah, I know what you're saying, the good guy can finish first, and the good girls usually end up with the right guys (or girls), but I have yet to see it happen out side of the aforementioned TV, movies etc...

Why am I bringing up all of this you may now be asking yourself, well, I blame the New Zealand TV show Go Girls, it follows the lives and times of four (three for the first season or two) twenty-something women and two (one for the first two seasons) twenty-something guys... But to me it doesn't sugar coat things quite like some other shows, yeah it's exaggerated but so far no happy endings...

You know something? At thirty three years old I'm beginning to think that maybe the truth is that the happy people are the anomaly, and us lonely and sad people are the norm... 33, single, never had a girlfriend, never been on a date, never been kissed... And yeah, that's not by choice.

Why are you worried about Armageddon?

You should be worried about Marmageddon!

Yup, it's the end of breakfast as New Zealand knows it!

Sanitarium, the makers of Marmite, announced a looming shortage of the black yeast spread owing to the fact that their Christchurch plant was forced to close due to earthquake damage.

The announcement revealed that the last stocks of Marmite have been sent to distributors, and once those have been sent to supermarkets and sold, that's it.

Until July at least when Sanitarium hopes to have the plant up and running again. The news has spurred some panic buying, which in turn spurred supermarkets and Sanitarium to urge kiwis to think about other kiwis before stockpiling the spread.

Don't Quote Me On This...

"Sonny, true love is the greatest thing, in the world-except for a nice MLT – mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe – they’re so perky, I love that."
- Miracle Max -- The Princess Bride

"What does Gotham harvest exactly? Crime?"
- Stephanie Brown aka Batgirl on Gotham U's Theta-Kappa-Gamma's Harvest Festival -- Batgirl vol 3 issue 2

"I don't remember reading 'And on the eighth day God created Klingons'."
- Arthur Ramsey -- Threshold

"I'm the Doctor; I'm worse than everybody's aunt! ... And that is not how I'm introducing myself."
- The Doctor -- Doctor Who 5.1 "Eleventh Hour"

Comics to Entertain You pt 1

So, for my first official blog post, I thought I'd start by introducing you to some of my favorite comics.

Now that may take some time to get through them all, I've got over 1200 comics here...

Anyhow, this first one is my current favorite, and I only got it today!

Batgirl, Vol. 3 issue 14: Terror in the Third Dimension

Firstly, details about the issue, it has a publication date of November 2010, it has 32 pages odd and a cover price of US$2.99.

Guest starring characters are Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, and Dracula, aka King of the Vampires and Prince of Darkness.

The summary reads thusly "When Supergirl decides to get away from it all and visit Stephanie Brown on the campus of Gotham City University, a quiet, relaxing weekend turns into a monster movie mash-up! After a science experiment goes horribly wrong, 24 black-and-white Draculas are brought to life, and Batgirl and Supergirl are forced to become vampire hunters in order to stop an army of the celluloid undead!"

To be fair, I don't know too much about Batgirl besides a couple of their secret identities (Barbara Gordon and Cassandra Cain) and the reason I got this issue was because it guest starred Supergirl (I love that gal I tell ya) and you know, it starts out slow, with Supergirl showing up and dragging Batgirl, or rather her secret persona, Stephanie Brown out for a night of college fun (keg parties or pillow fights), they wind up at a a 3D revival of 'Vampyres Bryde.'

During the film an experiment in generating solid 3D holographic objects goes wrong and unleashes a seconds worth of Draculas from the film (at 24 frames per second, that's 24 Draculas). It transpires that the only way to take them down is by stabbing them through the heart with some control rods. As the two superheroines bond and take down the Draculas we are entertained with awesome scenes of fights and amusement. And after all the Draculas are done and dusted, we turn up back at the Brown residence just too late for the pillow fight, and just in time for Steph and Kara to declare BFFs...

As a fan of the art, this comic book doesn't disappoint, it is, for my tastes, a little rounded in the art style, but it makes up for that with great writing and excellent execution.

Over-all, a 9 out of 10.

Welcome!

Hiya everyone!

Oooooh-kay, first things first, why the heck? Well, I did start a Transformers blog, and that's okay, but I don't think that's going to do too well, so broaden the scope I said to myself, and you know what I answered?

Why not :)

So, welcome to the insanely sane ramblings of a nerd and a geek...
